In towel manufacturing, yarn selection is the foundation of product quality. It directly determines the towel’s softness, absorbency, and durability. As a towel manufacturer with over 30 years of export experience, Hede is committed to using only high-quality yarns to meet the standards of premium markets.
This article outlines our yarn selection strategies and technical practices, helping you better understand the quality behind every Hede towel.
1. Why Towel Quality Starts with Yarn
Yarn is the core factor that defines the performance of a towel. We carefully select various types of cotton yarn to ensure excellent absorbency, durability, and softness. Whether for household towels, workwear towels, or premium custom products, Hede controls yarn quality from the source.
2. Cotton Yarn by Origin: What We Use at Hede
Domestic Cotton Yarn – Premium Combed Cotton from Northwestern China
The majority of our products use high-grade combed cotton sourced from Northwest China, known for its long, soft fibers with excellent absorbency. While the cost is higher, we’ve maintained its use for years to ensure consistent quality.

We have long-standing partnerships with several trusted suppliers, allowing us to secure stable prices and protect client interests even during market volatility.

Imported Cotton Yarn – Based on Customer Requirements
If clients specify the use of imported cotton such as U.S., Australian, Uzbek, Indian, or Pakistani cotton, we can source accordingly to support custom orders.

3. Common Yarn Types Used at Hede
Combed Cotton Yarn

Removes short fibers and retains long fibers, resulting in softer, more durable products—ideal for premium markets. Most of our European and North American orders use combed yarn.

Carded Cotton Yarn (Regular Cotton)
Cost-effective for mid-range towels. Not as refined as combed cotton but suitable for household or industrial orders.

Organic Cotton Yarn
More expensive, but available upon request. Preferred by clients who emphasize sustainability and eco-friendliness.

Blended Yarns (e.g., Bamboo-Cotton, Modal)
Offers excellent softness and moisture-wicking. Frequently used in premium custom lines. We’ve supplied bamboo fiber blankets for Emirates and also sell bamboo baby towels.

Recycled Cotton Yarn (Low Quality)
This “junk cotton” is entirely excluded from our production. Hede never uses recycled cotton to ensure basic product integrity.
4. Spinning Technique: Ring-Spun Only—Never Open-End
All our yarns are ring-spun, the industry’s gold standard for quality. We use both single and plied yarns, with the latter offering enhanced durability.

Common specifications include 21s/2, 32s/2, and 40s/2, which are widely applied in high-end products.

In contrast, open-end (OE) yarn is cheaper but of much lower quality and unfit for premium production. We do not use it under any circumstance.

5. Yarn Count: Matching Thickness to Product Needs
Typical counts include 10s, 16s, 21s, 32s, and 40s.
Higher count = finer, softer yarn (used in light, soft towels)
Lower count = thicker yarn (ideal for heavy-duty towels)
Most of our products use 16s, 21s, or 32s, depending on customer samples and end-use.
6. Why Hede’s Yarn Selection Is a Competitive Advantage
We strike a balance between quality, flexibility, and cost. Even when using mid-range yarns, we ensure strict quality control for stable, reliable output.
Our long-term supplier relationships help us stabilize raw material costs, even in volatile markets—an advantage we pass on to our customers.
